Mechanisms involved in injury and repair of the murine lacrimal gland: role of programmed cell death and mesenchymal stem cells.

This article reviews recent advances in exocrine tissue injury and repair, with emphasis on the roles of programmed cell death and stem/progenitor cells.

Functional analysis of dendritic cell-T cell interaction in sarcoidosis.

In this study, we investigate the interaction between monocyte-derived dendritic cells and T cells in patients with sarcoidosis compared to normal controls (n = 8 each) by examining the kinetics of autologous and allogeneic mixed leucocyte reactions over 9-10 days. We found markedly depressed proliferation kinetics in autologous DC-peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) co-cultures from [...]

Pathogenic role of anti-endothelial cell antibodies in autoimmune rheumatic diseases.

Authors: Domiciano DS, Carvalho JF, Shoenfeld Y
Anti-endothelial cells antibodies have been detected in numerous autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, including systemic lupus erythematous, rheumatoid arthritis, vasculitis and sarcoidosis. Anti-endothelial cells antibodies bind to endothelial cell antigens and induce endothelial damage. Their effects on the endothelial cell have been considered responsible, at least [...]

T cell activation profiles in different granulomatous interstitial lung diseases – a role for CD8(+)CD28(null) cells?

Authors: Heron M, Claessen AM, Grutters JC, van den Bosch JM
Summary Lymphocytes play a crucial role in lung inflammation. Different interstitial lung diseases may show distinct lymphocyte activation profiles. The aim of this study was to examine the expression of a variety of activation markers on T lymphocyte subsets from blood [...]

T cell activation profiles in different granulomatous interstitial lung diseases – a role for CD8+CD28null cells?

Lymphocytes play a crucial role in lung inflammation. Different interstitial lung diseases may show distinct lymphocyte activation profiles. The aim of this study was to examine the expression of a variety of activation markers on T lymphocyte subsets from blood and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) of patients with different granulomatous interstitial lung diseases and healthy [...]

18F-FDG PET patterns and BAL cell profiles in pulmonary sarcoidosis

Conclusion
18F-FDG PET correlates with the CD4/CD8 ratio and neutrophils, suggesting that 18F-FDG PET represents this specific cell profile in BAL. High SUVmax values of the lung parenchyma may therefore correlate with more severe parenchymal involvement, particularly when accompanied
by a low SUVmax of the mediastinum/hila.

A rare case of sarcoid-like reaction of lymph nodes associated with squamous cell carcinoma of alveolar mucosa

We present here a rare case of moderately differentiated squamous cell carcinoma of alveolar mucosa with regard to mandible associated with sarcoid-like reaction of cervical lymph nodes in a female patient in the absence of clinical evidence of systemic sarcoidosis. The relevant literature including pathogenesis is also discussed. (Source: Table of Contents : Indian Journal [...]
