Long-term preserved renal function of a patient with mass-forming granulomatous interstitial nephritis by biopsy-based steroid therapy

Abstract  In 2001, a 41-year-old Japanese woman was referred to our hospital because of severe renal dysfunction and fever of unknown
origin. On admission, her serum creatinine was 8.7 mg/dL, urine protein was 0.3 g/day, and urine β2-microglobulin was 81,007 Î¼g/day. Computed tomography (CT) scans showed bilateral contracted kidneys with a mass projecting
from the lower pole of the [...]

[Granulomatous pulmonary involvement preceding diagnosis of Crohn disease: A pediatric case report.]

We report on the case of a teenager in whom the onset of CD was dominated by respiratory symptoms. Because of this presentation, we also suspected opportunistic infections such as tuberculosis and other granulomatous pulmonary diseases such as sarcoidosis or hypersensitivity pneumonitis.

Palisaded neutrophilic and granulomatous dermatitis in association with sarcoidosis

We present a case of a 46-year-old female who presented with painful erythematous annular plaques and nodules on her legs. The lesions started a week prior to visit and increased in number over the course of the week. The patient had an established history of sarcoidosis with past episodes of uveitis and erythema nodosum. The [...]

Age-related differences in granulomatous gastritis: a retrospective, clinicopathological analysis

Conclusion
Differences in aetiology of GG between children and adults reflect age-specific disease states. Gender differences can be partially explained by gender differences intrinsic to the underlying aetiology. Irrespective of the underlying aetiology, the number and location of granulomas are similar in children and adults. (Source: Journal of Clinical Pathology)

Serum Amyloid A Regulates Granulomatous Inflammation in Sarcoidosis through Toll-like Receptor-2.

CONCLUSIONS: Serum amyloid A is a constituent and innate regulator of granulomatous inflammation in sarcoidosis through Toll-like receptor-2, providing a mechanism for chronic disease and new therapeutic targets.

[Large-vessel granulomatous vasculitis during the course of sarcoidosis: Takayasu's arteritis?]

We report the case of a man with a 10-year history of cutaneous and pulmonary sarcoidosis who developed ischaemia of the right upper limb evocative of Takayasu’s arteritis. The patient was successfully treated with oral steroids and methotrexate. DISCUSSION: This case prompts discussion about the relationship between Takayasu’s disease and sarcoidosis. Physicians should be aware [...]
